What is it?
The Seniors Alert Scheme is to enable older persons to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind by providing them with a free personal monitored alarm. It is managed locally by NEWKD, 20 William Street, Listowel (old post office)
How does it work?
People over 65 get a free personal alarm or pendant. The alarm can be worn as a pendant or around the wrist like a watch. When pressed it connects wirelessly to a base unit, usually attached to a phone. The base unit immediately sends a call to a 24 hour monitoring centre.
Do I have to have a landline?
No. It is now also available via mobile for an additional €7.50 per month
How do you get an alarm?
Simply contact Siobhan at NEWKD Tel: 068 23429 and she will apply on your behalf.
Can two people receive an alarm or pendant?
Yes as long as they both meet the eligibility criteria.
Can I make an application on behalf of another person?
Yes. You can contact us on behalf of a loved one or neighbour. However, the application details must be in that person’s name.
How much will it cost?
The first year is free; thereafter it will cost €66 per year. The equipment is funded through the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government and administered by Pobal.
Who is eligible to apply for an alarm?
A person is eligible if he or she is:
- Aged 65 or older;
- Living alone, living with another person who meets the eligibility criteria or alone for long periods of time during the day;
- Resides within the geographical area of the relevant registered organisation;
- How long will it take for the equipment to be installed?
We will apply to Pobal on your behalf. Once your application has been approved by Pobal, we will contact the designated supplier (TASK) to arrange installation. The equipment will be installed as soon as possible, usually within 2 -3 weeks
