This Wednesday we are excited to showcase the work and experiences of some of the women who participated in the Moving On programme. We will also be launching our new podcast series. Mary O Driscoll, Noreen Breen and Mary Quirke, all Moving On participants will present some really interesting projects they are working on since taking part in the programme.
Mary O Driscoll is an accredited counsellor member with the IACP. She and Sharon Villa, who also has a background in mental health, have formed a business called “Minding Yourself” offering workshops on Mental Health and Wellness.
Noreen Breen is an accomplished artist and is currently exhibiting at the Ciorcal Iomláin Exhibition at Siamsa Tire with the In House artist collective. “This exhibition showcases a diverse range of art forms developed by a group of women artists living and working in Kerry.
Mary Quirke is a creative writer and a writing and drama facilitator with the Creative Schools Programme and various community groups. Mary Quirke has recently written and produced a series of short comedy sketches online which can be found on facebook ‘Qwekreation Productions’.
As well as the showcase we will also be launching our new podcast series on Wednesday. Launched with radio producer and previous Moving On Participant Grainne Mc Polin who recorded and directed the podcasts.
Having spent many years as a nurse in frontline healthcare in Ireland and abroad, Grainne decided to follow a career into radio. Grainne files current affairs reports from Kerry for RTE.
She sums it up by saying: “I made a decision to change career from nursing to radio production in my 50’s and after a couple of years struggling with the career change, having invested so much in it, I basically hit a wall, and it was at that point, I was welcomed into the Moving On programme. There I got the support and guidance needed to help me to realistically focus on my new career by drawing on life experience and in doing so, that wall came down.
